Your Job Could Be Bad For You...And Lead To Diabetes
Filed in archive Lifestyle on November 26, 2006
Everyone agrees: excessive stress--often found in the workplace--is bad for you in many, many ways. Now health experts are taking that a step further, and naming work stress specifically as a risk factor for the development or worsening of diabetes.
People suffering from workplace stress or job burnout seem to be more likely to develop diabetes.
Those who reported job burnout linked to stress were 1.84 times more likely to develop diabetes. When they looked at a subgroup of 507 workers and tried to eliminate the effect of blood pressure levels, it turned out that the stressed workers were 4.32 times more likely to get diabetes.
Perhaps there has never been a better time to consider a career change.
