Such were the suggestion of a new meta-analysis and review appearing in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism:
"Evidence from trials with vitamin D and/or calcium supplementation suggests that combined vitamin D and calcium supplementation may have a role in the prevention of type-2 diabetes only in populations at high risk (i.e. glucose intolerance)."
But of course, since the findings are only analysis of already existing data, further studies should be pursued in order to clarify the clinical role of Vitamin D/calcium on management and control of type 2 diabetes. When that happens, then supplementation of Vitamin D/calcium in type 2 diabetes will be an easy and inexpensive practice.
