To Fight Diabetes, Head Out Into The Sunshine
Filed in archive Research on April 5, 2006
The use of Vitamin D and calcium to help improve diabetic symptoms, as well as possibly helping to prevent the development of the disease, has been flooding the headlines recently.
Promising results from a
major study have shown that a higher intake of calcium and Vitamin D are associated with a lower incidence of developing diabetes.
Overall, the lowest risk of diabetes was observed among women with the highest combined intakes of calcium and vitamin D compared with those with the lowest.
Researchers concluded the results of this large prospective study suggest a potential beneficial role for both vitamin D and calcium intake in reducing the risk of Type II diabetes.
Of course, it's important to remember to get these natural remedies from healthy sources such as moderate sun exposure and leafy greens...not ice cream!
