that doesn't involve fasting and blood drawing - and will only take a few minutes as opposed to the traditional glucose test that takes some two hours before you get the results.
In last year's ADA Scientific Sessions, The VeraLight SCOUT DS™ System was exhibited. It was said that the introduction of this screening test in the U.S. market is slated for the second half of 2008.
According to VeraLight, Inc.'s product page, The VeraLight SCOUT DS™ System is still for investigational use.
The SCOUT DS system is intended to be the first non-invasive diabetes screening system designed to provide a more accurate and convenient method for screening type 2 diabetes, and pre-diabetes based on the presence of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) biomarkers found in skin.
Still, this device is a breakthrough in diabetes screening. So maybe it won't be long before The VeraLight SCOUT DS™ System replaces the old blood test, at least as initial screening test for type 2 diabetes.
