Smoking Can Increase Type 2 Diabetes Risk
Filed in archive Lifestyle , Notable , Research on January 7, 2008
Have you quit smoking yet? If not, you should put that stick now, because smoking also can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Such were the findings of University of Lausanne (Switzerland) researchers:
Smokers faced a 44 percent increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared to nonsmokers.
They found the risk was even higher for heavy smokers.
Those who puffed on at least 20 cigarettes a day had a 61 percent higher risk for diabetes than nonsmokers.
Quitting smoking cut the risk, with former smokers seeing a 23 percent higher risk than nonsmokers, far lower than the risk for current smokers.
Well, guess what? If you quit smoking you are also decreasing the risks of lung cancer, heart disease and stroke - on top of type 2 diabetes.
So, your immediate goal should be to quit smoking. I know it is difficult to quit. But remember that anything can be mind over matter.
