Shoes for Diabetics in Indigenous Communities
Filed in archive Inspiration , News , Treatment by Gloria Gamat on October 30, 2007
(Australia) hundreds of new pairs of shoes have already been sent to indigenous communities as part of a program that hopes to treat diabetes' painful symptoms.
The said new program is a joint initiative by Diabetes Australia Queensland and the Brisbane Broncos.
We already know that type 2 diabetes can cause painful foot ulcers and sores which, if not managed well can lead to amputations of the affected foot. And that type 2 diabetes is rampant in indigenous communities because of their lifestyle and lack of healthcare readily accessible to them.
The abovementioned program will sent 350 pairs of Nike sandals to the communities of Aurukun, Kowanyama, Pormpuraaw, Coen and Lockhart River for those with type 2 diabetes.
