Sciele Pharma Expands Diabetes Drug Portfolio With Novo Nordisk Deal

Sciele Pharma Inc. has signed a deal with Novo Nordisk for the exclusive marketing of Prandin® (an oral blood glucose-lowering drug) and PrandiMet® (a combination tablet of repaglinide and metformin) to U.S. doctors.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sciele will exclusively market Prandin® and, upon approval by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), PrandiMet® (the name submitted to the FDA for a repaglinide/metformin fixed dose combination tablet) to physicians in the U.S., and will have the right of first refusal to obtain marketing rights in the U.S. to other Novo Nordisk products containing repaglinide, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in both Prandin® and PrandiMet®.

Well, the agreement allows Sciele to exclusively market Prandin® and PrandiMet® (a combination tablet of repaglinide and metformin) to U.S. doctors. (Sciele also gained the right of first refusal on U.S. marketing rights for other Novo Nordisk products containing repaglinide, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Prandin® and PrandiMet®). However, the FDA still must approve PrandiMet®.
