Today, November 14, is World Diabetes Day with the theme 'Diabetes in Adolescents and Children'.

From the Philippine Information Agency:
The observance aims to increase awareness on the rising prevalence of both Type I and Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents.
The Department of Health advises those who suffer diabetes, specifically children and adolescents, be given extra attention. There is a need for daily monitoring of blood glucose levels, medication, and the need to balance the effect of activity and food intake.
According to DOH-EV reports from the International Diabetes Federation show that globally, there are 240 million people who have diabetes and it is expected that in 20 years time this will increase to 380 million.
Children and adolescents are the ones more afflicted with type 1 diabetes, while with the rising rate of obesity, young people are getting type 2 diabetes.
