New Prefilled Disposable Insulin Pen for LANTUS®: Lantus SoloStar®, FDA-Approved

LANTUS® (insulin glargine), a product of Sanofi-aventis is a once-daily 24- hour insulin, treatment of hyperglycemia in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Now the USFDA has approved Sanofi-aventis' new prefilled disposable insulin pen specifically for use in the administration of LANTUS®: Lantus SoloStar®.

Lantus SoloStar® offers a convenient administration of LANTUS® (the number 1 prescribed insulin in the world) and is the only disposable insulin pen that allows patients to administer doses from 1 up to 80 units, in one injection.

AS explained by Gilles Lhernould, Senior Vice President Industrial Affairs, sanofi-aventis:

Giving diabetes patients an alternative to the traditional needle and syringe for insulin therapy, Lantus SoloStar® will be available in pharmacies sometime within this year.
