New Diabetes Drug Glumetza Declared A Success
Filed in archive News on April 11, 2006
The latest drug to treat Type 2 diabetes has been declared successful.
Glumetza, the brand name for the oft-used drug Metformin--used by many patients as Glucophage-- does the same job as Glucophage, but only requires a once-daily dose.
Patients taking Glucophage, the currently marketed immediate release version of the drug (and generic forms of metformin) have been required to take it two or three times a day to ensure adequate dosing.
Depomed's Glumetzaâ„¢ (Metformin HCl extended-release tablets) offers patients the convenience of a once-daily medication.
By lengthening drug retention time in the stomach and controlling drug delivery, Depomed's AcuFormâ„¢ technology can significantly enhance the effectiveness of oral medications. Depending on the drug being administered, the benefits of using AcuFormâ„¢ technology can include increased bioavailability, less frequent dosing, lower costs and fewer side effects.
I haven't tried the drug, but I give a thumbs up to any potential reduction in injections or pills!
Will you try Glumetza?

I have been taking Glumetza foa about 9 months. Because of the economy I have lost my job and no longer have insurance or perscriptions drug coverage. Is there any help available for help for me with my diabetes supplies and medication?

I have questions concerning this drug.
Could someone tell me when to take this pill? How long after should my blood be tested? Thank you. Rose
