Mobile Lab to Educate Texans on Obesity and Diabetes
A new mobile health lab has recently been unveiled by the University of Texas at San Antonio's College of Education and Human Development.

This mobile lab will travel to inner city and remote areas of South Texas in order to educate the members of the community on health and nutritionlinks and on obesity and diabetes.

In South Texas, in particular, residents face much higher rates of Type 2 Diabetes than other areas of the state. This form of diabetes has increased three-fold in children with obesity over the past three decades.

If this trend isn't reversed, one in four children born in the year 2000 will develop Type 2 Diabetes, UTSA researchers note.

The mobile lab is just one of UTSA's outreach efforts in its commitment to the well-being of San Antonio and South Texas.
