There is a myriad of options for people who would like to avoid or reduce their carb intake, whether they're suffering diabetes, as a prophylaxis, or simply because they choose to lead a healthier reduced-sugar lifestyle. For many, however, the most basic, and probably the single most effective practice (in conjunction with prescription drugs)however, is simply what is called 'mindful eating'. Instead of looking at food consumption as a battle, mindful eating encourages one to have a healthier relationship with food. Instead of having to constantly monitor one's intake of "forbidden foods", one is encouraged to focus on one's food intake, from the preparation of the meal all the way to the actual consumption, reminding one to savor and enjoy food by eating slowly and engaging all senses.
