The 30-year-old Lakeland teacher is on the front line of major technological advances that promise to alter the way millions of people monitor and control their diabetes.
She is one of about 250 people nationwide who rely on a device, released last year, that checks and records her blood-sugar levels nearly 300 times a day. With continuous glucose monitoring, La Charite and others with severe diabetes don't need to do as many finger sticks and have a better idea of how their levels fluctuate throughout the day.
The device is usually worn strapped to the waist, but now there's even an under the skin version.
What devices or methods do you use to make controlling your diabetes more convenient?
