Gladys C. Lester Dull: Oldest Living Diabetic
Filed in archive Inspiration , Notable by Gloria Gamat on May 30, 2007

Her story is included in the book 50 Secrets of the Longest Living People With Diabetes by Sheri R. Colberg and Steven V. Edelman.
Gladys was first treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment with the newly available, Lilly-made insulin.
Imagine that?!
Gladys recalling her insulin shot
eight decades ago:
My mother weighed everything out for me after that. She'd let me have one gram more than what I was supposed to have."
[Since she wasn't allowed to eat candy anymore, her grandfather used to buy her a newspaper to read (for the comics) instead, which almost made up for the one piece of candy she had previously gotten on weekly trips into town.]
83 years of diabetes and surviving it! Oh my God, this woman is amazing and has lived a much disciplined lifestyle to make her last with diabetes that long.
We should learn from her and be inspired.
