Diabetic Amputation Rates Higher Among Texans
Why do diabetic Texans, especially those who live along the border of the state, experience a rate of nearly twice the amount of amputations as their U.S. counterparts?

This article explores the shocking statistic, and the reasons behind it. The result is a study of a complex interaction of many variables including race and economics, that result in tragic medical consequences.

The solution is multi-pronged, and it won't be easy or fast. Education, diet, genetics, economics, awareness, health-care access -- all play important parts in diabetes and the high amputation rate.

As Brutus said, "I always tell people diabetes is something that can be controlled very easily for a long period of time, but it can also be very dangerous."

After reading this, you can't help asking yourself: Why does it have to be this way, and what can be done to change it?
