Diabetes Linked To Colorectal Cancer
Filed in archive Research on August 29, 2006
Many people don't realize just how prevalent colorectal cancer is in the United States. In fact, it's the second-deadliest cancer of all.
Diabetics--especially if they are also men and/or smokers--need to pay special attention to this, as there appears to be a link between the cancer and diabetes.
The researchers concluded that type 2 diabetes increases the risk of developing colorectal cancer, particularly among men and former or current smokers. Patients with type 2 diabetes should speak with their physician regarding screening for colorectal cancer.
There is a bright side: colorectal cancer is often curable if detected early enough. Please be sure to speak to your doctor to arrange a screening!
