Filed in archive Inspiration on March 9, 2006
Slough, located in the UK, has one of the largest population of diabetics in the world. Many people are uneducated about the disease, increasing the danger of serious illness.
One nurse decided to change that. The head of Action Diabetes, Grace Vanterpool, nicknamed 'amazing grace' by her patients, raised crucial diabetes diagnoses in Slough by 30 percent.
Along with the appreciation of those she's helped, Vanterpool recently received the much deserved Nurse of the Year award.
"This is truly nursing at its best when the expertise is developed beyond a basic job description to a scheme that benefits whole communities."
Congratulations to Grace, a true modern day hero.
