Coffee Not The Solution, Scientists Say
Filed in archive by Rhys on June 30, 2006
Scientists are skeptical that coffee has anything to do with lowering the risk for diabetes.
If anything, the antioxidants in coffee are responsible, and you can get those from much healthier sources. The coffee itself, it seems, may be irrelevant.
"All the study proves is that diabetes is a multi-factoral disease with many variables affecting its development," said Dr Eyad Ksseiry, endocrinologist at Welcare Hospital.
He said that people should adopt lifestyles
that are proven to prevent diabetes instead of adding coffee, decaffeinated or otherwise, into their diet.An excellent point, though perhaps coffee is at least a moderate substitute for people unwilling to change to a healthier lifestyle. Which method would you prefer: some home brew, or diet and exercise?
