Celiac Disease Common in Type 1 Diabetic Children

Along with the 'normal' complications that go with Type 1 diabetes, children who have it are also much more susceptible to celiac disease.
Celiac disease is an allergy to gluten, found in almost all wheat products. The condition causes extremely uncomfortable intestinal distress, and can lead to stunted growth. A recent study found that one in eight children with Type 1 diabetes also has celiac disease. You can read more here.
Although this can be a painful and potentially serious condition, children who are placed on a gluten-free diet usually respond wonderfully.
