Cancer Treatment May Control Diabetes
Filed in archive News on June 29, 2006
The latest in diabetes treatment may be one originally intended to fight cancer. The medicine, Rituximab, appears to target cells that lead to diabetes.
"This particular drug targets B cells, which are part of the immune system in the body, and part of the cells that create the ongoing process that leads to Type 1 diabetes," said Dr. Jennifer Marks of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Clinical trials are underway for what may become exciting news in diabetes research.
