The book's author -Rochelle L. Stern - has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes) when she was 32 and since then have been living life with normalcy (with the help of diabetes device and treatment and some lifestyle changes) including eating a piece of cake during each of her child's birthday.
Lifted from the book, my favorite paragraph:
If Mom's blood sugar number is too high, she gets tired and wants to take a nap. And sometimes she acts funny. One time she couldn't remember my name!
But if her blood sugar gets too low, she can get crabby.
Sometimes Mom acts angry with me, even though I'm not doing anything wrong. When that happens, I know it's not my fault. It's the diabetes that makes her act that way.
If you a parent with diabetes and you have young kids, sometimes it is difficult to explain our condition to our kids. This book will help you. Yeah I have read the book myself and so I can say that with conviction. Please do get a copy, I highly recommend it.
