Where are my keys? Did I turn off the stove? What time was the meeting supposed to start?

We blame it on getting older, distractions, or just basic character, but what if memory loss could be traced to untreated diabetes?

A recent study shows that Type 2 diabetics who properly control their blood sugar have improved memory functions when compared with those who have not properly treated their diabetes.

From the ADA: Better metabolic control of type 2 diabetes can lead to improved "working memory" -- the type of memory people use to keep information in their minds for short-periods of time and to complete day-to-day activities.

"Many of the patients with type 2 diabetes may have evidence of mild cognitive dysfunction," Dr. Christopher M. Ryan, from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, told Reuters Health. "Improving metabolic control and reducing fastinglinks plasma glucose (sugar) levels can lead to an improvement in learning and memory ability."
This is quite a helpful article...if you remember to read it!
