An inexpensive NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) in the name of salsalate has long been used in the treatment of arthritis.
Joslin Diabetes Center researchers who have reported that salsalate may be used to prevent type 2 diabetes are now reporting that the drug can actually treat type 2 diabetes.
As reported in the May 2008 issue of the journal Clinical and Translational Science, salsalate has been found to lower blood sugar and reduce inflammation in type 2 diabetes patients.
According to Allison B. Goldfine, M.D., Director of Clinical Research at Joslin and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, and senior author of the report:
