Are Diabetics Getting Enough Support?
Filed in archive Resources on May 31, 2006
It doesn't seem like it. Researchers everywhere feel that diabetics are being mismanaged, both by themselves and by their doctors. It takes a village , as the saying goes. Perhaps many villages.
A survey found that although patients believe they understand diabetes, they are not doing what they need to do to control it, and their doctors are unable to help much.
One suggestion for improvement is a 'team approach,' to include more than just the patient and doctor: family, nurses, dieticians, education, and so on.
"We all agreed that the future of good diabetes care will not rely on a single doctor," he said. "Realistically, one doctor can't do everything for a patient."
How is your 'village' helping you? Do you find it difficult to reach out for assistance?
