Antibiotic Tequin, Linked to Diabetes
Filed in archive Information , Treatment on August 6, 2007
Manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), the antibiotic Tequin® belongs in a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones and is used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the lungs, sinuses, skin, urinary tract and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
In February 2006, BMS revised the label of Tequin in order to strengthen its risk-factor warnings (which includes diabates).
Tequin® is available as TEQUIN (gatifloxacin) Tablets for oral administration (200 and 400 mg) and TEQUIN (gatifloxacin) Injection and TEQUIN (gatifloxacin in 5% dextrose) Injection for intravenous administration.
Apparently, Tequin® is linked to diabetes that there were (and still there are) actually lawsuits against it.
Finally, Tequin® was removed from the U.S. market in May 2006.
Here's one of most recent Tequin lawsuit story.
I just wonder if Tequin® is in the market outside of U.S.?
