People with diabetes need exercise. One fun exercise they can engage into is swimming or water aerobics (whether swimming in pools, above ground pools or the sea).

Swimming benefits people with diabetes. As diabetics have higher risk of cardiovascular diseases, swimming improves their cardiovascular fitness. Swimming burns calories, thereby helping diabetics control their weight. Also, swimming strengthens the major muscles in the body, and as a result efficiently absorbs blood sugar in the muscle cells. The same fits for water aerobics.

Swimming is indeed a fun activity that people with diabetes (even those without diabetes) truly benefits from. However, in order to commit into a regular swimming routine, get a swimming partner or enroll in a swimming class in order to get motivated at all times. But don't forget to inform your swimming partner or your class that you have diabetes. Besides, swimming with other people is more fun than swimming alone.
